Driftwood On The River

A Tribute To Jimmy Driftwood
and the music of the Ozarks

NR0206-2

A few words from Sherwin Linton:
Jimmy Driftwood's early RCA recordings drew my attention in the late 50s and I had the pleasure of first meeting him in 1961. I immediately recognized that this man had an exceptional gift which he shared with his audience in a very intimate way with stories, songs and his homemade guitar.

To my good fortune, I developed a longtime friendship with Jimmy and his wife Cleda and visited with them often at their home in Timbo, Arkansas. In 1996, my wife Pam, knowing my deep love for this man and his music, encouraged me to produce a special tribute to Jimmy Driftwood.

Thus was born this CD featuring many of Jimmy's songs and other popular selections of his time. I also wrote and recorded a tribute song, "Jimmy Please Play That Ol'Pickin Bow". This CD also includes dialogue participation by Jimmy and Cleda which is enhanced with special sounds of the Ozarks. Producing this project has been one of the great highlights of my own 43 year career.
